A Fair Pipe at Mid Shore

The piper came and the piper played and he piped to his heart’s content

And some took delight while some took affright but all were regaled by this gent.

The piper came and the piper played and he played to his heart’s content.

The piper came and he piped away as the first hour came and went.

The piper came and the piper piped and he piped to his heart’s content.

The piper stayed and still he played as the second hour came and went.

The piper played and still he stayed and he piped to our discontent.

He piped, he stayed - some said he played - and the third hour came and went.

The piper stayed and he put down roots as he piped to his heart’s content.

His wee foot tapped and his fingers bent as our hearts sank to our boots.

The piper stayed and he played and played and he piped to his heart’s content.

We tugged at our hair with gritted teeth till the fourth hour all but went.

The piper came and eventually went, then we listened from afar.

The Scottish Sodjer  - aye and Scotland the Brave - his two tune repertoire.

The piper came and the piper went and he piped till our minds were bent.

He piped away on that tearful day when no hurt had ever been meant.
